나타샤 배딩필드.

1981년 11월에 태어난 그녀는 90년대에 두 형제와 DNA Algorithm 이란 그룹에서 활동했을 했을 정도로 어렸을때부터 기타, 키보드, 작곡에 능력이 있었다. 그녀는 이후 가스펠, 롹 음악을 주로 하다 대학에 진학(철학과), 이후 솔로 음반 Unwritten으로 데뷔했다. Soulmate가 실린 음반은 세 번째 음반인 'Pocketful of Sunshine''의 두 번째 싱글컷 노래이다.

나타샤 배닝필드의 이 노래는 누구에게나 소울 메이트가 있다는 전제 하에.. 흐르는 노래이다. 센티멘탈한 이 노래.. 절정으로 치닫을 수록 더 몰입하게 만든다. 비평가들이 'too sentimental'한 곡이라며 꼬집었다는데.. 틀린 말은 아니지만 충분히 센티할 만한 가치가 노래인 것 같다.

좀 더 센치하거나, 좀 더 롹이거나, 좀 더 팝이거나.. 지금 딱 중간인 그녀가 걸어갈 다음 길은 어디일까.
